A few days ago I decided to try (again) to play with my friends over on Defias Brotherhood. I want a(nother) healer and I had already leveled a priest to 23 on Alonsus. I had 2 choices:
1. X-realm a level 80 for support and level a character from scratch;
2. X-realm an already existing low-level character (namely said priest).

There’s pros and cons for each, but I ended up with option 2 for three reasons:
- I want to raid with my guild on the 80s I like (druid and paladin), and I don’t want to play at all on the 80s I don’t like (mage and warrior);
- all my chars on Alonsus are complementary, they help each other with their professions, so I’d be losing either my maxed enchanter (mage) or my farming engineer (warrior);
- I really couldn’t be bothered leveling another priest to level 23. Yes, it’s a low level, but getting to 15 for the dungeon finder was painful and I don’t want to do it again. (It wouldn’ve been easier if I’d rolled a shammy, but I don’t have any BoA shammy gear, while I have a full-set of cloth BoA.)

So, decision made, and Crista of Alonsus was set to become Khrista of Defias Brotherhood (damn you level 25 rogue who took my name!). Since the whole point of x-realming was to benefit from my level 80s, I made an extensive (mental) list of stuff I need to take with me. Since I’m such a nice person, I’ll share it with the world.

A. BoA gear, enchants and misc.
- BoA for every gear slot – chest, shoulders, staff, two trinkets. No ring, because I haven’t managed to get any character above 250 fishing skill.
- Tome of Cold Weather Flight – probably the most important thing to take with you. You can level even without the 20% XP bonus, but you can’t fly at 68 without this on a server where you don’t have level 80s. I almost forgot it (/facepalm) but my boyfriend reminded me before I transfered (phew).
- shoulder enchants because, even though Hodir rep gains have been increased, I don’t want to do those quests ever again.
Note 1: only the big shoulder enchant is BoA; don’t make my mistake and buy the small ones… let’s just say that my warrior could have mp5 on shoulders now if she wants to go bandage spec.
Note 2: I didn’t get helm enchants too because, seriously, Wyrmrest rep is piss easy to get, and you don’t even have to go to exalted.
Note 3: These enchants can’t be used before level 80.

B. Non-BoA enchants
- I made a few spellthreads (both the lower and higher version) because… well, because my mage is a tailor and I had the mats, so why not use them.
- If you want, you can also send yourself a couple of enchant scrolls. I decided against it, since I have enchanter friends on Defias and I’ll get a lot of mats while leveling.
- Eternal Belt Buckles aren’t a bad idea either.

Useful things

C. Money
There’s a problem here, which almost made me not transfer. Because of our friends the gold sellers (may they all be ganked), Blizzard imposed gold limits for transfers. You can’t go with more than 300 gold below level 30, 1,000 gold between level 30 and 50, 5,000 g between 50 and 70 and 20,000 gold between 70 and 80. I was planning to send her over with 2,000, but at level 23 this clearly wasn’t possible.

Money!

My solution was to buy a couple of Cardinal Rubies, which I intend to sell. The price is a little higher on Defias too, so I might even make a profit. Crista left with 13g and about 2,500g in gems.

D. Gear and bags
I like planning ahead – way ahead – so I sent my priest with the mats for a Merlin’s Robe. Why just the mats and not the crafted thing? Well, a lot of things can happen by the time she hits 80, so the robe might not be as good then, or I might decide to level another class, or I might get a better drop. Selling Crusader Orbs and cloth is easier than selling an epic (I hate sitting around and spamming trade), so in my opinion this is the smart way to go. I considered also making myself a couple of tailoring blues, but it was too much trouble (and I have tailor friends on Defias anyway). The only thing I couldn’t easily get as a fresh 80 without a main on the server was Orbs, so that was my priority.

Bags are obvious – you can’t go wrong here. You need big bags so don’t even consider leaving without at least Netherweave bags in every slot (preferably in the bank too).

E. Mats
Whatever you think you’ll need in the course of your virtual life. I grabbed all the herbs I had saved up (she’s an alchemist), a lot of meat for leveling cooking (which I then forgot on Alonsus, but let’s not get into that) and some cloth. Other things you might want to take with you: gems (I decided not to because the low level ones are dirt cheap, and as an alchemist she will be able to transmute her own epics, to be later cut by friends), honor tokens, various profession leveling mats if you don’t want to farm and they’re cheaper than on the destination realm.

I'm a herbalist and I'm ok...

F. Stuff to sell
Since I’m going to a RP realm, I grabbed as many clothes I could fit in my bank – shirts, dresses, tuxedo pants, everything and anything I thought could sell there. If you’ve got enough time, survey the AH and see what makes a better profit. I didn’t have time for that, so I simply used what mats I had and crafted a bit of everything. You can do this with anything, from gems to herbs. I wasn’t looking to make a huge profit, so I didn’t bother.

Dresses!

Now the transfer is complete and Khrista is set to go. She’s got places to heal, idiots to meet, gankers to hate on and a level 80 to aim for. Prepare for leveling tales.
