When I first started playing I was too embarrased I didn't even ask in guild chat... I was clueless about the game until level 70, when a nice guy grabbed me and taught me everything about getting ready for raids.

Every time someone asks a seemingly stupid question on Trade, I think about how I used to be. My shaky ego would've collapsed if I got yelled at by other players, so I try to make the newbies feel better... maternal instincts maybe :P I love to hear that other people are the same and that WoW isn't a (complete) pool of rudeness.

If I happen to catch grief being dished to an obviously new player ...I answer the question as best as I can in chat and then whisper the new player encouragement. I am a perpetual Noob, I know, which is why I ask my stupid questions in guildchat not in trade usually.

No Undercity sewers for me, being Ally and all (plus, everytime I end up there on my Hordes I end up so so lost), but it might be something to do with all this lichkingness...

Anyway, I call it making the world a better place. Trolling in the name of good!

I don't know what happened (there must be something in the water - have you been drinking from the Undercity Sewers as well?) but lately I went from a normal person who ignores trade to someone who tries to talk to people on it - not trolling as such but people who take the piss out of new players or are stupid. And every time I see my name on the trade channel I cringe a little bit and think "Tam, how have you fallen so low?"

http://xkcd.com/386/ <-- this is so me :( I can only take so many "rouge lfg weekly" until I snap. It's ON YOUR SCREEN SPELL IT RIGHT!

Trolls like the ones you mentioned (or the usual "where do I get a good epic bow?"/"Deadmines") piss me off, so I have to tell them off... thereby spamming even more shit on Trade. My server isn't very trollish, nothing organized, but the same idiots pop up every time. Unsurprisingly, one applied to my guild, and got rejected. Who'd have thunk it...

It's one of my weaknesses too. I've spent too long on the internets now to be easily baited, but when someone says something really stupid I often can't help but join in. Our server also has one of the biggest trolling guilds in wow so I think a lot of TVC has a very high tolerance to it. This is the guild that spent most of vanilla content camping BRM, and has been griefing and trolling everything in sight for years. One of them even took trolling to almost an art form (he posted something on the official forums about himself being kicked out of a raid guild for having to pray during raid times due to his islamic religion - several max post threads and even crossposted to the US forums before they all got locked down)

There's also a couple of unguilded cretins on my server who regularly populate trade. I don't think they realise just how much it affects their chances of doing anything beyond the daily heroic. I've seen them kicked out of pugs and I know the one time we got an app on our forums from one of them it was disvouched heavily.
