Reading Sirg’s post and looking at the GM’s less than impressive clothes, I remembered my own beautiful red-and-white robe. And then I remembered the awful truth: last night I got a better drop… which looks so ugly.
Let’s compare.
First, the Robe of Power, lovingly crafted by myself.
55 Armor
+12 Intellect
+8 Spirit
Requires Level 33
Equip: Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 14.
Then there’s the Silksand Tunic.
58 Armor
+5 Spirit
+16 Intellect
Requires Level 39
Can you see the problem here? I like that extra intellect on the tunic, but oh my God it’s ugly! I look like a naked draenei, everything is brownish and you can see that space goats weren’t made to ride a tiger because their posture is awkward when mounted (the robe hides that pretty well).
I never had this problem on my warrior. All plate gear is more of less the same, no pretty colors or patterns or anything. But it looks there’s more issues with playing a caster than I imagined…
So, how important should fashion be in-game? It’s clear the developers thought about it, otherwise there wouldn’t be so many pointless items like different colored shirts or a wedding dress. But should it influence gearing or not? Is that 0.2% extra stat worth it or not?
So far, my answer is “no, it isn’t”. I’m sticking with the robe. I have to look at my mage all day and I’d rather see something I like.
(And no, it’s not a girly thing, I have male guildies who agree with me.)
We know that Game Masters are all-powerful beings, yet most of us never see one. They are invisible, or they just don’t exist. Sometimes you might hear whispers, but that’s all. Glimpses of GM customs have been passed from father to son, main to alt and from alt to banker, but very few survive, like the “delete your WTF folder” popular custom. But I tell you - game masters exist, you have to believe! I know you want to believe! They are … out there!
I was on an epic task - creating the Seal of Ascension to enter the Upper Blackrock Spire, but a glitch in the Twisting Nether Matrix (or whatever the gnomes call it) made things impossible. So I beged the gods.. the game masters, please help me o great ones, praised be the WTF folder and its holy contents! Soon, after 3 hours, I started hearing whispers from the GM called Khaarikh. Bless the patches! My call was answered! And by the power of the Patch, Lag and the Holy Bug, the GM created a new seal and put it in my bag! — You recieve item: [Unadorned Seal of Ascension].
[Sephala]: Thank you! This is like pickpocketing, but in reverse!
<GM> [Khaarikh]: :))
[Sephala]: May I pickpocket you?

After I “pickpocketed” the thin air where I thought the GM was, he revealed himself as a she, a female gnome wearing the Sacred Blue Robes of Game Mastery. She waved to me and next she was gone again…

So, GMs have many names, but the same blue robe, exactly like the myths from the Beta Age tell us. Some are funny others are plain. But they are out there!
